The draft system
RimAttack's draft doesn't work the way it does in a traditional basketball game. Three things set it apart:
8.1The best prospects don't all end up in the top leagues
A prospect weighs up the money, where he'd go in the order, the minutes he'd get and how much a club actually wants him, then picks which league's draft to enter.
If his own class is unusually strong, a slightly weaker prospect may hold back a year to land a better slot.
Your club can:
- run workouts to get a read on what a prospect can do
- offer a draft promise, which makes him more willing to enter
- work with other managers in your league to draw good prospects in
Even a top-tier league loses players to the divisions below it if the pitch is handled badly or the league's reputation is poor (unpaid wages, for instance).
8.2Rumors and the information game
You can spread rumors to talk a prospect's stock up, and you can plant false ones to send your rivals the wrong way and leave your own target on the board.
With no information — or the wrong information — your estimate of a prospect's ability can be off by 10–50%.
8.3The season calendar
First half of the season
Run workouts to build familiarity with prospects, and work with the other managers in your league to pull players toward your draft.
Second half of the season
Once the draft list is final, the information game against the rest of your league begins. How familiar you are with each prospect decides how much you have to play with.
Playoffs
- The top 16 clubs play for the championship
- The bottom 16 play for the first overall pick
Draft night
Check your plan against reality, handle whatever goes wrong on the night, and get one last round of misinformation out before the picks start.
